Hiroshi Ishii: Radical Atomas

Our Institute co-organized a lecture by prof. Hiroshi Ishi, who introduced the revolutionary vision of Tangible Bits and its concept of Radical Atoms. The goal of his research team is to translate purely digital information into a form that can be truly perceived and felt, and not just seen as a visualization on the screen.

For his work on Tangible Bits, Ishii was given chair in 2001 and this year he was awarded the SIGCHI Lifetime Research Award for the contribution that the scientific community has gained over the last quarter of a century in the field of human-computer interaction.
